A delegation from Turkmenistan in Astrakhan State University

A delegation from Turkmenistan arrived at Astrakhan State University on March 18, 2009

The delegation included three Turkmenistan’s top scholars who are engaged in the Hazar project that was launched in October 2006 and shall be carried out till October 2010. The main goal of this Project is preservation of Turkmenistan’s flora and fauna, and the key role of Hazar State Reserve in it.

The Turkmen delegation came to Astrakhan to negotiate on teaching biological disciplines to Turkmen specialists (such disciplines as Hunting Management, Ichthyology, Hydrobiology, Bioecology, and Ornithology). There are several possible forms of such education – Master programs, Doctoral programs, distance and part-time education, and exchange of experience in the field of protection of valuable biological sites at the northern and eastern coasts of the Caspian Sea.

Our Turkmen guests talked to ASU’s top managers. As the Head of the delegation said, nowadays Turkmenistan is striving to establish good relations with foreign scientists. The Caspian Sea is the united space, and that is why the problems that the Hazar Project tries to tackle concern all the other countries at this sea. In his turn, ASU’s Rector said that ASU should certainly participate in this interesting and extremely important project. He added that ASU should give the maximal number of opportunities for teaching Turkmen specialists, who have already got an education in Biology, but are not trained well enough to tackle concrete ecological problems of the Caspian Sea.

The delegation is to visit ASU’s Innovative Institution of Natural Sciences, the Caspian Fisheries Research Institute, and the Astrakhan State Reserve of Biosphere.

A preliminary protocol is to become the result of this visit.
