Now that natural resources of unique, relic, and valuable sturgeon species of fish are rapidly decreasing, the only opportunity to save them is intense development of sturgeon breeding. For the last 2 or 3 decades, such activities have been undertaken in a lot of countries. At the same time, such activities deal with essential problems: there are too few scientific developments; there is a lack of both scientific literature and qualified staff. ASU’s Research Center “Sturgeon Breeding” operates to save species of sturgeons in Astrakhan Region.
 
The main goals of our Research Center are:
 
The tasks of our Research Center are:
  1. Creating a scientific base for sturgeon breeding;
  2. Training highly-qualified staff for sturgeon breeding – basing on the most up-to-date knowledge and know-hows;
  3. Development of relations with research and educational organizations;
  4. Development of new, promising forms of innovative activities and of cooperation research institutions, construction bureaus, farms, and other organizations for joint solving the most important research and educational problems.
  5. Development of international relations with outside-Russia universities, research organizations, and business companies;
  6. Developing the financial aspects of our researches by using grants and other sources of financing.
