Research Center “Sturgeon Breeding”
Now that natural resources of unique, relic, and valuable sturgeon species of fish are rapidly decreasing, the only opportunity to save them is intense development of sturgeon breeding. For the last 2 or 3 decades, such activities have been undertaken in a lot of countries. At the same time, such activities deal with essential problems: there are too few scientific developments; there is a lack of both scientific literature and qualified staff. ASU’s Research Center “Sturgeon Breeding” operates to save species of sturgeons in Astrakhan Region.
The main goals of our Research Center are:

Increasing the efficiency of research activities by uniting efforts and resources;

Undertaking innovative activities and supporting the private business;
-
Training highly-qualified specialists for top priority research directions;
-
Publishing relevant scientific literature.
The tasks of our Research Center are:

Creating a scientific base for sturgeon breeding;
-
Training highly-qualified staff for sturgeon breeding – basing on the most up-to-date knowledge and know-hows;
-
Development of relations with research and educational organizations;
-
Development of new, promising forms of innovative activities and of cooperation research institutions, construction bureaus, farms, and other organizations for joint solving the most important research and educational problems.

Development of international relations with outside-Russia universities, research organizations, and business companies;
-
Developing the financial aspects of our researches by using grants and other sources of financing.
Functions of our Research Center:

Training highly-qualified staff for sturgeon breeding activities by using results of researches and our innovative potential;

Undertaking both theoretical and experimental researches;
-
Accepting orders for researches from business companies;
-
Participation in both federal and regional research programs and projects;
-
Development of innovative structures;
-
Development of innovative resources;
-
Organization of conferences, meetings, symposiums, seminars, and other events;

Organization of international cooperation.
