Joint Scientific and Academic Archeological Laboratory
Our Laboratory operates under joint direction of the Astrakhan State University and of the Miklukho-Maklay Institution of Ethnology and Archeology (affiliate of the Russian Academy of Sciences).
Principal directions of our scientific activities:
– Lower Volga in Ancient Times;
– Lower Volga in early Iron Age;
– Population of the Volga’s Delta in 8th-14th centuries;
– Towns and Steppes of the Golden Horde;
– Archeological mapping in Astrakhan Region.
Principal directions of our researches:
– Digging and exploring archeological artifacts;
– Training specialists skilled in restoration; creating a restoration workshop based on our laboratory.
Principal directions of our educational activities:
– Organization and realization of archeological practice for students of the Historical Department – at digging sites located in the Lower Volga and in adjacent territories;
– Maintenance of the Academic Museum with both constant and temporary subject expositions;
– Organization and realization of educational excursions of archeological memorials in Astrakhan Region.
The Laboratory is headed by Dmitry Viktorovich VASILYEV, PhD in History.
